Hair loss affects both men and women, and while there is no cure for it, there are many things that can be done to slow it down and make the most out of the hair that remains. Although there are many products that you can use to tackle hair loss, natural alternatives tend to be safer and gentler with your hair and scalp.

Tips for Hair Loss and Thinning Hair

    • Fight hair loss with the right shampoo
Choosing a shampoo that fights DHT, a hormone that gathers at the base of the follicle and causes thinning, can make all the difference. Supplement with a styler that promotes fullness while keeping strands healthy.
    • Keep it cool
Heat stress can do terrible things to your hair, weakening proteins and priming follicles for eject. That means no more blow dryers, hot curlers, or hair straighteners.
    • Avoid harsh chemicals
If the ingredients list on the back of your product reads like the deep end of a college chemistry textbook, you probably shouldn’t use it. Natural is better.

Many prescription treatments for losing hair include harsh chemicals that can dry out your scalp and make the follicles weaker. Foamers and thickeners, sodium laurel sulfate, or SLS – the chemical that produces all that nice, bubbly lather – strips hair of essential oils, breaks down protein essential for hair health and halts growth. Sodium chloride (basically table salt) is used as a thickener in products containing SLS, but it can cause dry, itchy scalp and encourage hair loss. Polyethylene glycol (also known as PEG, polyethylene or polyoxyethelyne) is another thickener that strips hair of moisture.

Neem for Hair Loss

If you’re looking for a natural, danger-free way to treat hair loss, neem is the solution. With anti-inflammatory properties that stimulate blood circulation, neem strengthens the immune system, promotes healthy hair growth and soothes the scalp. This gift of nature also offers anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties to keep your hair, scalp, and skin healthy.

Simply mix neem powder and water, then massage the hair mask onto your scalp. Leave it for half an hour before rinsing. You can even add neem powder to your shampoo for daily treatment, or make your own neem shampoo!

Weight loss is a term that is often uttered with dismay and mythical characteristics, like a treacherous climb up a mountain. The truth is that losing weight depends on many factors that vary between individuals. No one formula works for everybody, and traditional remedies may come with several troublesome side-effects. Neem extracts, on the other hand, have many benefits, that come in a powerful natural, ancient, and safe solution.

Traditional Weight Loss Solutions

Many diet supplements are harmless, and some may even be effective at creating a sense of fullness, burning fat, or boosting your metabolism. However, some of the popular ingredients in weight loss products have been banned by the FDA because of harmful side effects like these:

  • Increased heart rate
  • High blood pressure
  • Agitation
  • Diarrhea
  • Sleeplessness
  • Kidney problems
  • Liver damage
  • Rectal bleeding

Ephedra – Banned

Once widely sold as an ingredient in diet supplements, the Chinese herbal stimulant ephedra was prohibited in 2004 because of evidence that its use could increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. In 2005, a lower court ruled that ephedra is legal in small doses. In 2006, a federal appeals court reinstated the FDA’s original ban, ruling that ephedra was too dangerous as a supplement at any dose.

Hydroxycut – Recalled and Banned

Some weight-loss products can cause severe damage to your kidneys, liver, and other vital organs. Hydroxycut products were banned and recalled in 2009 because of reports of severe adverse reactions, including hepatitis and jaundice. One person who took these fat-burning supplements died; another required a liver transplant.

Neem for Weight Loss

Neem is an ancient remedy that offers several solutions for many ailments, through its digestive properties, neem can help you safely shed pounds in a variety of ways.

  • Increase satiety: Neem leaves are rich in fiber, which makes digestion slow and lets you feel full for a longer duration.
  • Improves metabolism: Increased metabolism helps you burn more calories, giving you the body of your dreams.
  • Detoxifies your body: Flushing out harmful chemicals in the body, neem leaves can prevent inflammation, a factor known to cause weight loss.
  • Prevents fat absorption: Eating neem leaves helps your body absorb essential nutrients and prevents the intake of fats.
  • Helps burn fat: By improving your body’s metabolism, neem leaves fasten the fat burning process as well.

Sweaty armpits? Most people are willing to try anything in order to get rid of this problem, and unfortunately, most of us turn to deodorant and antiperspirant which contains a number of chemicals such as aluminum, that can damage your skin, stain your clothes and even threaten your overall health. Substances used in many commercial deodorants and antiperspirants have several compounds that may contribute to developmental or reproductive issues as well as cancer.

Antiperspirants and Deodorants: Is There a Difference?

While they are usually referred to as the same product, antiperspirants and deodorants are different from each other. An antiperspirant prevents sweat and body odor in two ways: Firstly by preventing sweat from reaching the surface of the skin and secondly by fighting odor-causing bacteria. Deodorants only contain antimicrobial agents that fight body odor.

Deodorant and Antiperspirant Chemistry

People always think twice when it comes to toxic ingredients in food, but the ones that we smear in our skin may be causing more harm. Experts explain that the things we eat are broken down by our liver and digestive system, but what we put in our skin might enter the bloodstream without being metabolized. Therefore it’s important to look at some common ingredients in deodorants and antiperspirants.

Parabens – They are used in deodorants and other personal care products as preservatives. Research suggests that parabens interfere with the way the body regulates estrogen and other hormones. Research into a direct link between parabens and cancer has proven inconclusive, however, there are experts who have concluded that continued exposure to chemicals such as parabens may contribute to the development of tumors.

Aluminum– Probably the most infamous ingredient associated with deodorants, although it’s most commonly found in antiperspirants. This metal has been linked to “gene instability” in breast tissue. Research has shown that most cancers originate in the breast area which tends to coincide with the use of products that contain this metal. Using products that contain aluminum in areas where the skin is often shaved can lead to an increased risk of aluminum in the bloodstream.

Phthalates – These compounds help deodorant and other beauty products stick to our skin. They also appear to disrupt the way our body produces and uses testosterone. While many people think of testosterone as a male hormone, it is also found in women and it plays an integral role in energy and muscle maintenance.

Fragrance – In the US and many other countries, scents are protected under trade law and therefore not listed as ingredients, which is why going “fragrance-free” is recommended for everyone. There is no telling what fragrances might contain, but the smart bet is on toxic chemicals.

Ever Thought of Going Natural?

There are a number of natural alternatives to chemical deodorants and antiperspirants which are often available at your local pharmacy. Look for products that are labeled paraben and fragrance-free. There are many natural ingredients readily available in many households such as baking soda, apple cider vinegar and coconut oil which can help control body odor and protect your skin. In addition to this, there are natural deodorant brands which use neem oil as an active ingredient. Neem’s natural anti-bacterial properties make it an ideal natural and safe ingredient.

As a general rule, always read labels before purchasing any product and choose the natural alternative whenever possible.
